Advocates and Experts

Advocates and Experts provide, not opinions,, but factual data and in-depth understaandingto questions under discussion.  As H. L. Mencken said, "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong."  It is the lack of a full understanding of the facts which all too often trips us while making decisions.  This is all too easy to do in the pressure cooker of the campaign season.
The Advocates and Experts you find here come from our own experience and from yours.  Nominate an individual who is an Expert or an Advocate.  While doing so, consider what we attribute to 'experts' and 'advocates'.  By identifying an individual by these words, or by attibuting to them a neutral viewpoint or having training which provides insights which would otherwise not be understood, can cause confusion.

Expert  - " 1. a person with a high level of knowledge or skill relating to a particular subject or activity: 2. having or showing a lot of knowledge or skill:"
Advocate -to publicly support or suggest an idea, development, or way of doing something: 2. a lawyer who defends someone in a law court

An individual can have training which might seem to make them an expert of a subject but, and this is important to keep in mind, they might have an interest in the outcome on the issue, or, their expertise may lack the specific experience on a question which calls for detailed understanding. The video clips below, clips from the movie, "My Cousin Vinnie", humorously make this point.
